Fire Floor Definition

The fire area is the combined area of the floor in between fire walls fire barriers exterior walls or horizontal fire barrier assemblies within a building.

The occupants of the fire floor and floors immediately above and below it should immediately use the exit stairs to descend to a floor level that is at least a few floors below the fire floor. The aggregate floor area enclosed and bounded by fire walls fire barriers exterior walls or fire resistance rated horizontal assemblies of a building. Fire partitions shall extend from the top of the foundation or floor ceiling assembly below to the underside of the floor or roof sheathing slab or deck above or to the fire resistance rated floor ceiling or roof ceiling assembly above and shall be securely attached thereto.
